Life is a Highway

Well, I got a new job. It is with a company I like and the owner is a great man as are the rest of his staff. I am still getting used to my duties but think that if I have enough time I can perform them well. There is a down side though. It looks as if I will be working 72 hour work weeks and a good possibility that I will be working graves. 8 at night to 8 in the morning.

So, what will my day be like? After getting off at eight, I will be taking the kids to school. Bed time will be nine in the morning. Then I will get up at 11:30 in the morning to take my wife to work. Back to bed at noon and then up at two in the afternoon to get the kids. Home AND awake from three to eight to start work and a break half an hour later to get my wife.

I still do not know how I am going to survive on four and a half hours sleep or so a day, but I will make due. Part of the reason for the shift is that there is another person doing the same job that I am and he is in a similar situation. He has been here longer and I would rather not rock the boat. The other thing is that the evenings are not as busy, I canget comfortable doing my job and not let anyone down by getting the experience I need to perform it if shifts should change at a later date.

My wife is not happy about it and the 72 hours will kill me but I do not want to let the owner down. He is a good man and I respect him verry much. He came to me and asked me to do this. He has done much for me in the past and I do not want to let him down as I have before.

Here’s to some really interesting weeks ahead.

Gone but not forgotten

Seven years ago while my wife and I were moving in to a new place and prepairing for the birth of our daughter, we got a visitor. He was a cat of about two years and his name on his collar was Pounce. We called the number on his collar and the owners told us to just kick him out if he was a bother. He came and went for a few weeks, always taking his collar off in our house when he came. We called his owners again and found they moved and left him behind. We decided to keep him and not let him out anymore.

Two weeks ago, after I left for work in the morning, someone left the door open a bit and he got out. We have not seen him since. We put up fliers but have had no response. All I can think was that one of two things happened. Either he decided he had grown up enough thet he needed to move out on his own or with another family or something worse.

I am not a big cat fan but he has been in both of my childrens world their entire lives. He did make a good companion though, always coming to visit me after I got home from work. I do moiis him but it saddens me because of how my children have lost their friend as well. So, while he might be gone, I know we will never forget our old friend.
