Weekend vacation

Posted in General at 12:09 pm by Rob

This past weekend I took a small vacation with my family and wifes parents. I did not want to go at first because me and the in-laws don’t get along that well. They are ok people but just get on my nerves most of the time. The main reason for going was because they were off to Sedona. About 90 minutes from Phoenix, Sedona is beautiful country and about 20 degrees cooler that here.

My main goal was to get out in the rocks and do a little climbing and get into nature a bit. The night we got there I found that we were going to be in a 12X40 foot, one bedroom lodge. Perfect for six people. Not much to do the first day as it was almost gone by the time we got there so we made the best of it till the morning.

I let everyone know that I wanted to see the rocks. They are deep red and contrast well with the surrounding environment. We took a drive and the entire time I got to see locations that the in-laws had been to but never got out of the car. Then it was off to go shopping for the ladies before going back to the place we were staying.

Not once did I get to get outdoors. The trip was a small success because I caught a pair of Sceloporus tristichus. You can see pictures at this site. I got them home and they are eating well.

Oh well, I guess there is always next time.

Hello to my wonderful brother who set up a website for me too. I'm sure mine will not be so deep... I'm enjoying yours though. Can you believe I recently caught a piece of that show on quantum physics and couldn't shut it off? But I got over that and read on... Then after wiping the tears from my eyes at the thought of anyone being in Sedona and not getting outside for a hike, I thought, Hey! We'll go. But this time my rules. No shopping allowed. Just bring an extra pair of tennies (red dust you know) and we'll head for the rocks. There's a place on Oak Creek Canyon I'd love to show you. The kids can search for bugs in the meadow at the top...we have to trek through an old apple orchard and past the remains of an old homestead and then down to the river. It's shady and quiet (except for the noise from my kids) and amazingly beautiful. The water is clear enough to see the trout. We actually saw 2 snakes last time. Yes - something for even you nature boy!

Hey now, just because we have quail, coyotes and raccoons up here does not make me a nature boy. That trip would have to be better no matter it turned out. Snakes? Yay! Have to make that trip then.
